Amarok 1.4 on newer *ubuntu

If your newer (k)ubuntu comes with Amarok 2 by default, here's an easy way to install Amarok 1.4 even if you just have KDE4.

I could also preserve the 'rating' (stars) database by copying over /var/lib/mysql/amarok and adding the same folders to collection so that the paths of songs were preserved (though I'm not sure if it's path that is used to identify a song file or something else). Obviously, this requires you to be using mysql to store your collection (or else, you could perhaps achieve this by just copying over collection.db in the amarok preferences folder in your home dir).
